Everton have reportedly made contact with Bundesliga 2 side FC Nuremberg regarding the prospective signing of promising attacking midfielder Can Uzun.
After a challenging start to their Premier League campaign, Everton’s new owners, American investment firm 777 Partners, may seek to bolster the squad in the January transfer window. The Toffees brought in five new players during the summer, including the likes of Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma, but got off to a slow start failing to win in their opening five league matches.
Florian Pettenberg took to Twitter to suggest that Everton have initiated contact regarding the 17-year-old’s availability, with Portuguese side Benfica also reportedly expressing interest in the young talent.

Despite his youth, Uzun has already begun making a name for himself in the German second tier. The technically gifted player has contributed seven goals and two assists in 10 appearances, form which has caught the attention of larger clubs.
Uzun is currently under contract until 2026, putting Nuremberg in a strong negotiating position. However, the allure of a significant transfer fee for a player of his caliber could be tempting for a mid-table 2. Bundesliga side.
The current plan is to retain Uzun beyond the winter, allowing the youngster to continue his development and demonstrate his capabilities at the current level for the foreseeable future. Should Everton’s new owners be willing to splash the cash though, an offer too good to refuse could well be on the table.
